Market signals, May 2026
New research from YouGov found that most UK SMB decision makers do not expect AI to replace traditional software platforms within the next three years.
While AI adoption continues to grow, many UK small businesses remain satisfied with their existing systems and have concerns around reliability, security and accuracy of AI tools. They are keen to adopt new tools when they solve a clear problem, reduce effort or improve outcomes. The research suggests that many SMBs currently see AI as an addition to their software stack rather than a substitute for it.
For marketing and technology providers, the challenge may not be convincing businesses that AI is important. The bigger challenge is helping organisations understand where AI fits within existing workflows and proving that it can deliver consistent value. Technology adoption is usually constrained less by possibility and more by trust, process and organisational readiness.
